이 표현은 어떤 사람의 병의 증상이 그 사람의 행동을 통하여 쉽게 파악될 수 있다는 의미에서 나왔습니다.

기원과 적용

예수님께서 산에 올라가 그 유명한 설교인 팔복에 대해 말씀하시면서 무리들에게 거짓 선지자들을 조심하라고 주의를 주십니다. 진짜 선지자는 성경에 따라 그리고 예수님의 가르침을 신실하고 바르게 전파하는 사람입니다. 거짓 선지자는 기독교 교리에서 벗어난 말을 하면서 마치 경건한 사람처럼 위장하는 것 에서부터 나옵니다. 그들의 열매와 행동은 인식되어지고 “cast into the fire” 불에 던져져야 합니다.
