오늘날, “golden jubilee anniversary of marriage”를 기념할 때는 결혼한지 50년되는 해를 의미합니다. 희년의 개념은 구약시대로 거슬러 올라갑니다. 하나님은 이스라엘 백성들이 6년 파종한 이후에 그들에게 안식할 수 있는 땅을 주십니다. 안식년 같은 개념이지요. 일곱번의 안식년 이후에, 즉 7년에 일곱번의 안식년을 가진 후, 그들은 50년 되는 해에 농작물을 재배하는 일로부터 자유로워 졌습니다. 왜냐하면 이 해를 거룩한 해로 지켰기 때문입니다. 모든 사람은 제 각자의 밭으로 돌아갔고 오직 그들의 밭에서 수확한 음식만 먹었습니다.
