창세기 2:7
이 이름은 히브리어로 “사람”이란 뜻이고 하나님께서 아담을 창조하신 구약시대, 창세기에 의하면 “땅”이란 뜻인 “adama”란 히브리 단어와 또한 연관되어 있습니다. 아담과 이브는 선악과를 따 먹어 원죄를 저지를 때까지 에덴동산에 살던 첫 번째 인류였습니다. 어떤 이들은 피부의 발그레한 색을 나타내는 “to be red”라는 의미에서 유래되었다고 주장하기도 합니다.
