누구라도 두 주인을 섬길 수가 없습니다. 여기서 말하는 주인은 누구일까요? 예수님이 여기서 언급하신 두 주인은 하나님과 고대 히브리어로 부를 상징하는 부의 신입니다. 예수님은 오직 한 사람에게만 충실할 수 있는 것이라고 제자들에게 회상시켜 주셨습니다. 만약 그들이 그들의 주인으로써 부를 선택한다면, 그들은 하나님의 뜻을 대적하는 것입니다. 오늘날 이해충돌이 있을 때 사람들은 이 말을 사용합니다. 예를 들어, 한 회사 간부가 동시에 여러 회사 부서들의 입맛을 맞추기 위해 다양한 태도로 임한다면, 그가 한 부서에 조차 진실로 헌신된 사람인지 질문해 봐야 할 것입니다.
