我们希望通过推广阅读圣经这英语文学的重要渊源,加深学员对英语的兴趣。

几个世纪以来,圣经一直是许多著名学者,作家,诗人的灵感来源。其中最有名的就是莎士比亚。只是,一般人现在很少讨论这些源头。其实,我们现在常用的英文习语,比如”turn the other cheek”, “go the extra mile”等等,不少是源于圣经。长期以来,学者们一直鼓励同学多读圣经,认为这是学习英语最有效的途径,原因之一,是圣经中内含许多珍贵的谚语和修辞技巧。实际上,学员浸淫在圣经的优美行文后,很多时在不知不觉间英语水平有所提升,至少扩大了词汇量,并懂得使用排比句等圣经常用的修辞法。

现在,越来越多国际知名大学的教授们推崇教圣经学英语。耶鲁,哈佛,普林斯顿,史丹福大学的教授们一致认为无论一个人的信仰或教育程度,都应该对圣经有所了解。根据一篇2006年6月1日刊登在圣经文学报告(Bible Literacy Project),被采访的39个全美最顶尖的大学教授中,其中有34个认为圣经知识是良好教育中非常重要的一部分。


使命

本机构旨在
A)通过对圣经的学习,加深学习英语的趣味性,从而高英语英语能力。
B)激励各英语老师和培训机构在学校和工作地点推广英语文学。
C)通过了解圣经对西方文明的重要影响,提高学员对西方文学,历史,艺术的鉴赏力。
D)推广圣经的阅读,成为一门学术和趣味兼备的学科。

关于我们

圣经英语文学促进会(Society for English Learning through Biblical Literature, SELBL) 于二零零八年由来自不同行业的专业人士及教师成立。自创办以来,学会举办多个讲座及工作坊,致力推动“看圣经学英语”的学习模式,以创新的教学模式提升学习成效。

自2010起,圣经英语文学促进会有限公司根据《税务条例》第88条成为获豁免缴税的慈善机构。
