“These people come near to me with their mouth and honour me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.” (Isaiah 29:13) “主说,因为这百姓亲近我,用嘴唇尊敬我,心却远离我。他们敬畏我,不过是领受人的吩咐。”(以赛亚书29:13)

意思

平常我们说的某人很会用lip service,实际上指他们只是说一套做一套,并不会把自己所说付诸行动。

圣经旧约里提到,上帝看到世人单奉他的名而没有付诸实践时感到很不以为然。在那时,法利赛人很熟悉圣经,他们虽拥有丰富圣经知识,为信徒制定严格条例,内里却是伪君子。他们教世人爱人如己,但自己却没有实践上帝的爱。上帝通过以赛亚这位先知道出了他的失望, “主说,因为这百姓亲近我,用嘴唇尊敬我,心却远离我。他们敬畏我,不过是领受人的吩咐。”(以赛亚书29:13)
