bible verse
“Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb.” (Revelation 22:1)
meaning
“Clear as crystal”, or “crystal clear” becomes a common expression to describe something that is transparent.
origin and application
John the apostle was entrusted by Christ to write the Book of Revelation, the last book in the Bible, who revealed the coming of New Jerusalem where the whole city was in a paradise and where the waters were as pure and clear as crystal.
While this phrase appeared well before the translation of the Book of Revelation, it became a common phrase after the Bible was in print. “Clear as crystal”, or “crystal clear” becomes a common expression to describe something that is transparent, for instance, a “crystal clear sky”, a “crystal clear explanation” and “crystal clear waters”, among others.
