だれでもわたしについて来たいと思うなら、自分を捨て、日々自分の十字架を負い、そしてわたしについて来なさい。

意味

自分に背負い支えている十字架を持つ者は、自分自身を捨て私欲をなくす。

起源と適用

ルカの９章では、イエスは彼の弟子たちに自分の身に起こる苦しみと死を予告している。そしてイエスは彼らに自分について来る弟子達がイエスを十字架につけなくてはならない事を気付かせた。
