“主が家を建てるのでなければ、建てる者の働きはむなしい。主が町を守るのでなければ、守る者の見張りはむなしい。”(詩篇127:1)

意味

無益な働きとは、何も結果が出ない働きという意味です。

起源と適用

この成句は詩編に記されていて、クリスチャンの中では有名な成句です。この詩は人々に対し、自分たちのやり方よりも、神様に目を向けた方が良いという勧めです。神様の祝福がなければ、そこにはなにもないからです。

この箇所にある「家」と「町」は例えです。聖書の解説者はこの2つの例えを家族のシンボルとして信じています。これは神様の祝福に頼る事が、家族の安全と富に繋がるという事を意味しています。

私たちは良い戦いをしたので、無益な働きはしていません。
