意味：これはヘブル語の起源をもっていて、「淑女」「王女」という意味です。旧約聖書でサラはアブラハムの妻です。サラはもともとはサライ（意味はおそらく「私の王女」）と呼ばれていましたが、神が、彼女を祝福して、彼女が息子を持つようになり、国々の母となること、その国からは人々の王たちが出現するようになると言われたときにその名を改名されました。サラは９０歳になってから、イサクを産みました。
