Simon サイモン、シモン

意味：新約聖書では、ペテロはもともとシモンと呼ばれるガリラヤ湖の漁師でした。イエスが彼を十二弟子のひとりに選んだあと、イエスは彼を「ペテロ」と改名しました。ペテロはイエスがユダヤ人たちに捕らえられたあと、三度もイエスを否定しましたが、後でそれを悔い改め、生涯を福音を宣教することに捧げました。ネロの圧政下で、ペテロは頭を下に、逆さ十字に掛かったと言われています。

ペテロの話は、四福音書と使徒言行録の中に出てきます。
