罪が支払う報酬は死です。しかし、神の賜物は、わたしたちの主キリスト・イエスによる永遠の命なのです。(ローマ書:6:23)  


意味

罪はキリスト教の重要な概念です。罪とは何でしょうか?罪は、神から私たちを遠ざける罪や違反です。「報酬」は、比喩的表現であり、罪のもたらすものという意味で、それが死だというのです。。人が不道徳な行為や思考を続けるならば、最後の審判でで死に至るだけです。この聖句をローマ書で書いた使徒パウロによると、イエス・キリストを信じる者は罪から解放されるのです。また、永遠の命という神からの賜物も受け取ります。
