现在我们用“exodus”比喻一大群人离开某地的景象。

以色列人在埃及流放其间过着奴役的生涯。上帝顾念到他们的困境,就让各种瘟疫临到埃及地,藉此向埃及法老王施压,把以色列人释放。但是埃及法老硬著心肠,对以色列人的态度施豪没有任何改变。上帝发怒了,决定向法老施以惩罚,在逾越节期间杀掉每个埃及家庭的头生胎儿。为了把以色列家庭分别出来,上帝要求以色列人家将羊血涂在门框上,这样他们就可以免遭瘟疫。当法老看见每个埃及家庭的头生子女都无一幸免地遭受瘟疫之苦时,他只好容许以色列离开埃及,以换取其子民的安康。最后,以色列人获得了自由,离开了埃及。
