使徒保羅在這封寫給哥林多教會（在今天的希臘）的信中，斥責了教會里娶繼母而犯亂倫行為的人。保羅寫這封信的時候，他當時在哥林多對面的以弗所，可以說，身在曹營心在漢，所以說 Absent in body, but present in spirit。 從“absent in body, but present in spirit”（身不在而心在）又引申出“present in body, absent in spirit”（身在而心不在，身在曹營心在漢）的習語。老師常常喜歡用後者來形容課堂上走神的學生。
