 英文聖經的翻譯簡史

聖經原文為希伯來語,亞蘭文和希臘文

公元四世紀期間St. Jerome把聖經翻譯成拉丁文的聖經通用本,Vulgate意思是“共同的”或“所有人的”。
公元10世紀壹些《新約》的篇章被翻譯成英語。
公元14世紀英國宗教改革者及牛津大學哲學和神學教授約翰威克利夫(John Wycliff)把整本聖經翻譯成拉丁語。
1494-1546
丁道爾(William Tyndale) (1494-1546)首次把整本聖經翻譯成英文原版。
1603
詹姆斯國王(King James) 於1603年掌權後,有鑒於早期聖經的不同版本在文體和教義上出現矛盾,詹姆斯國王委托學者作出修訂。這是英王詹姆士時期的譯本King James Version(英王欽定本)。
公元19世紀英王欽定本其後作出修訂,修訂版本包括國王詹姆士修訂版本(1885)、修訂標準版(1952),新修訂的標準版(1989),英國標準版(2001)。
今天, 市面流行的英文聖經版本包括The Living Translation (1971年),它是由American Standard Version(1901)按照現代英語修訂而成;The Good News Bible (1976)-由現代美國聖經學會(American Bible Society)出版,行文淺白易懂。而 New International Version (1978)所使用的英語,則介於King James Bible和淺白的Good News Bible之間。
