Babel 巴別塔(創世記 11)

“So the LORD scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. That is why it was called Babel —because there the LORD confused the language of the whole world.” (Genesis 11:8-9) “於是,耶和華使他們從那裏分散在全地上。他們就停工,不造那城 了。因爲耶和華在那裏變亂天下人的言語,使衆人分散在全地上,所以那城名叫巴別 (就是變亂的意思)。”(創世記11:8-9)

意思

“Babel”指一片混亂,也指半途而廢的計劃。

世界由各種各樣的文化和語言組成,但在世界伊始之時人類只有一種語言。人類出于驕傲,想要建造一座可以通達天堂的高塔,那樣人們就能“傳揚自己的名,免得分散在地上。”上帝得悉了人類的計劃,就混淆了人類的語言并使人類分散在各地。人們不得不放棄建造巴別塔。這也正是巴別塔名字的由來,因為 “Babel(巴別)”在希伯來語的意思是“混淆”。
