此名又稱馬庫斯Marcus。馬可是新約聖經中馬可福音書的作者，據說是巴拿巴的表弟。而巴拿巴在使徒行傳中是和保羅一起旅行傳福音。在一次佈道中，馬可曾在旁非利亞離開巴拿巴和保羅，不和他們同去作工，為此巴拿巴與保羅曾爭論是否應該帶同馬可傳道。結果，巴拿巴與保羅分道揚鑣，巴拿巴帶著馬可坐船往塞浦路斯，保羅帶西拉走遍敘利亞和基利家，堅固眾教會。
