是什麼原因讓約伯憑著他的忍耐與堅持而揚名後世呢? 約伯是一個虔誠、正直的人。他很富有,被認為是東方最具勢力的人。撒旦對約伯的虔誠并不信服,因此撒旦試圖用傷害他的孩子和擄走他的財產等方法以考驗約伯的虔誠。約伯始終堅持著他的信仰,也不對上帝妄加評論。在第二次考驗中,撒旦令約伯遭受了身體上的折磨,但約伯依然堅守信仰。 約伯信念堅定,不屈不撓,這從他受到重創時對上帝說的這幾名句可見一斑∶“我赤身出于母胎,也必赤身歸回。賞賜的是耶和華,收取的也是耶和華。耶和華的名是應當稱頌的。”(約伯記1:21) 約伯的忍耐和信實讓他守得雲開,得到極大的祝福。上帝令他的家族恢復興旺,并賜予他兩倍的財產。他的晚年過得很幸福,他擁有上千只羊、駱駝、牛和驢子。他一直活到了一百四十歲。
