bible verse
1 Samuel 13:2
meaning
It was derived from the Hebrew name יְהוֹנָתָן (Yehonatan) (contracted to יוֹנָתָן (Yonatan)) which stands for “God has given” or “gift of God”. As recounted in the Old Testament Books of Samuel, Jonathan was the eldest son of Saul and best friend of David. Despite the angry and jealous Saul, Jonathan remained best friends with David and helped him hide. Knowing Jonathan was slain in a battle against the Philistines, David lamented that their brotherly love surpassed that of women.
