“To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me.” (2 Corinthians 12:7) 又恐怕我因所得的啟示甚大,就過於自高,所以有一根刺加在我肉體上,就是撒旦的差役,要攻擊我,免得我過於自高。” (哥林多後書2 12:7)

意思

A thorn in your side就是指某些總是肇事和使你的生活舉步維艱的人或事。

在使徒保羅去往大馬士革的路上,救世主耶穌向他顯現透露了自己的身份,于是保羅就被改信基督教了。保羅是一個充滿有使命感激情并且效忠的人,他卻畢生自始至終承受著肉體的痛苦。他曾三次請求上帝除去他肉體里的痛苦(肉中刺),但卻缺得不到應允被拒絕了。上帝告訴他,“我的恩典夠你用的已經給了你夠多的恩澤了,因為我我的能力是在人的軟弱上顯得完全權利是完美的弱點。”保羅喜歡夸自己的吹噓并且很樂意自己的痛苦軟弱,因為在他軟弱和艱難的時候他可以看見上帝所賦予他的力量。因此他有一句名言,“因我什么時候軟弱,什么時候就剛強了當我軟弱的時候,我變得很剛強。”
