“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.” (Matthew 7:15) “你們要提防假先知。他們外表馴如羔羊,但骨子里卻像豺狼,兇殘成性。” (馬太福音7:15)

人們常用這習語來比喻虛情假意背後的潛在危機。

來源及應用

耶穌在八福山上著名的講道(登山寶訓)中,他提醒聽衆要小心一些假先知。因為真正的先知是會傳授真實的聖經講道,忠於耶穌的教導。但是假先知會以神聖的外表做幌子,通過言語去動搖人們對基督教教條的態度及信仰。 順帶提一句,這個措辭在“伊索寓言”裡也有提及,因此有學者認為耶穌用這比喻取自“伊索寓言”。里面提及一隻狼,希望能在披上羊皮之后可以獵殺更多的食物。但到最后,一位牧羊人誤認為其是一隻羊而將它殺死了。
