bible verse
“But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.” (Matthew 5:39)
meaning
If you turn the other cheek to others, you are a forgiving person.
origin and application
In his famous sermon on Mount Beatitudes, Jesus said to the crowds on mountain top, “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.” (Matthew 5:38-39)
If you turn the other cheek, you are humble and do not retaliate or get outwardly angry when someone offends or hurts you. In fact, you give them the opportunity to re-offend instead and compound their unpleasantness.
Forgiving an offense often prevents another offense, but retaliating can bring another. If you turn the other cheek to others, you are a forgiving person.
